The Secret I Want to Share with the World

It’s a beautiful thing to witness a shift, a breakthrough, or an ah-ha moment.

As a Next Chapter coach and as a CEO specializing in organizational transition, I am honored to be entrusted with helping to create these moments of possibility and transformation.

I have seen breakthrough moments reveal themselves as subtly as a corner of a mouth turning up, and I have heard them appear as a full-body exclamation.  I have felt the molecules in a board room shift, and I have seen complex and “impossible” production schedules turn into moments where everyone has what they need to create extraordinary performances.  I have seen overwhelm and burn-out shift in an instant to confidence and abundance of energy.

The more I realized creating the possibility for these moments is part of what I do, the more I noticed them.

The more I noticed them, the more I saw patterns, commonalities, and could create frameworks to teach others to find them.

It turns out that I can spot the potential for a breakthrough moment, I know how to coax them into being, and I can identify and create the causes and conditions to help make it possible.  Doing this literally makes my heart sing knowing I’ve helped create new possibilities for someone else to have the impact they are meant to have.  And that the world needs them to have.

In hindsight, I realize I’ve been able to do this all my life.

In reality, it’s taken me over 50 years to realize this.

Here’s the secret I want to share with the world:  YOUR most important “skill” is the thing that creates the most impact on others and at the same time brings you the most joy. Living in this intersection of impact and joy is why you are here. How you create that impact is unique, and it comes effortlessly.

Knowing what your factual superpowers are – knowing your purpose (the impact you have on others when YOU are feeling joy), only then makes it possible to communicate it.

Why is communicating your impact important?

  • SO THAT those who need the very impact that only you offer, can FIND you – as you search for your dream job, as you conduct interviews in the media, launch a new business, create a new website.
  • SO THAT you can mindfully curate your life of joy and impact – as you negotiate salaries and resources, as you make choices about where and when to invest your time, and as you ensure the causes and conditions you need to have your impact are all present.

The problem is that we don’t really know the impact we have on others when we are feeling joy.  We don’t notice it. We don’t value it, because it comes so easy to us and we didn’t have to train or get a degree to do it.

In a recent Strategy Call, a successful leader was sharing how she was at a Crossroads Moment trying to decide what to do next. Like all my clients, she has many options and many assumptions about what would and would not be possible.

After our conversation, she paused and said:  “Wow.  I just realized that for all the marketing expertise I have worked hard to obtain, people have been telling me my whole life that I create spaces for them to feel safe and confident, which allows them to be creative.  And, I love doing that!

And there is was: a shift in her awareness, that then creates the invitation for her to relook at herself through a different lense!

She continued to reflect that in her last job interview, the employer asked her to describe what she could bring to the company. “After talking about my skills I said “my references will share how I’ve made a big difference in all my jobs, and you’ll be able to see that when I’m in the role.”

Kathryn, can you imagine how amazing it would be to be able to be more helpful and answer his question directly?!

Yes, I CAN!

  • When we speak our (truthful) impact, we help those who need it, find us.
  • Momentum builds.
  • We curate lives of joy and meaning.
  • The world changes.

Please don’t keep your superpowers a secret.  Be an expert on your impact and joy. And, if you would like a guide to help you on your journey, I am very happy to help.  It’s what I do.  😉

To your success,

Kathryn
