You Have Impact – and I Don’t Even Know You (Yet!)

I’m writing this from the Association of California Symphony Orchestras (ACSO)‘s annual conference where I’m a proud board member, conference sponsor and session presenter! The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera has truly outdone themselves as the host organization, the attendees are leaning in, and there is MUCH happening – in and out of the sessions!

I get such a boost of creative energy when I’m surrounded by groups of people who are meeting to look for ways to have deeper impact in the communities they serve, and to learn from, support and encourage each other to work through the many obstacles that may arise along their path.

It’s inspiring to meet so many mission driven leaders who are committed to making their organizations and thus their communities and the world a better place.

After listening to a conference session, I had an enlightening (and yet, familiar) conversation with someone in the audience whom I had never met:

Audience member:   “That person is so inspiring.  They have a clear purpose, and are making a big difference. They make everyone want to join them.”

Me:   “Yes.  And you have a purpose, and you make a big difference.”

Silence…

Watery eyes…

Audience Member:   “Well, thank you, but you don’t know me.  I’m not at their level.  What I do is okay, but it doesn’t have the same impact.”

Me:   “I love that you used the word impact.  Here’s what I know, and it is ALWAYS true for the people I talk with: You DO have impact, and it is your responsibility to uncover what that is, SO THAT you can make choices that will enable you have that impact in whatever role you are in, AND communicate it in ways that help connect you with those who need the impact you offer, and those who can help you on your noble journey.”

And then, we had to clear the room, and I had to leave before the person was even able to blink. I did remember to hand them a business card!

I meet so many leaders like this who are doing incredible things in the world, but just aren’t connected to the true power of their impact. It’s so easy to compare ourselves to other leaders and see how we don’t measure up, or why our journey isn’t as remarkable as someone else’s.

If you’ve ever questioned YOUR impact and YOUR value, here’s what I want you to get connected to:

When you show up as your best self (confident, joyful, at the top of your game, fully present)…

You create impact!

And whether you are making a difference in one person’s life, or an entire industry, when you do that special thing that you do, in the unique way that you do it…

You empower people!

When you are “in the zone” doing what you do best…

You create positive change.

I invite you to be inspired by YOU, and remember to not diminish your impact or dim your light by comparing yourself to others.

Trust that even if I’ve never met you, I KNOW you have impact.

To your success,

Kathryn

P.S. – I love hearing from you!  What evidence can you find of your impact?  And if you’re feeling like you’re at a crossroads of some kind, let’s get on the phone to see if I can be of help!
