Don’t Know What Your Next Steps Should Be? These Four Prompts May Help

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.” – Nelson Mandela

Sometimes, knowing what to do next in our career feels… elusive.

While searching for the answers can create new opportunities and profound clarity, for many, not knowing what choices to make, or when, or how, creates terrible suffering.

The state of suffering that comes from not knowing what to do is often intertwined with hidden and un-tested assumptions about ourselves, our professions, our world, and what we believe is or is not possible, or practical.

This lack of having a strong and personalized “rudder” and compass for ourselves, can manifest itself in endless loops of research, asking for advice, second-guessing, comparing, and self-blame.  Or, taking actions that ultimately reveal that the decisions that were right for others, weren’t for you.

It’s okay*.  There’s a solution that works.  (*Well, its not okay that your suffering is preventing you from having the impact you are meant to have – with joy, ease and financial sustainability!)

Every week amazing people entrust me with their dilemmas, materials to review, and questions about what to “do” next in their career and life and for the organizations they lead and work within.

While I do see trends within job markets, know what is effective in organizational positioning and personal interviewing, and have a vast network of colleagues ready to help, my answer when being asked “what should I do?” is always: “It depends.”

Helping people FIND the answers that are right for them – revealed and informed by missing self-intel –  is why I created The Career (Life!) Breakthrough Academy.

If YOU are feeling stuck, or keep going down the rabbit hole scanning the internet (or applying) for jobs, or feel yourself disconnecting or dreading coming back from vacation, here are 4 prompts that may help you:

  1. If you could waive a magic wand:  in three months, how would you like to be FEELING?  Why?
  2. In looking back at your life/career, what were the 3 moments (ie.15 minutes or less) where you felt on top of the world?  Why?
  3. Make a list of all the things that are preventing you from having the feelings you want and the peak moments you loved… every.single.day?
  4. Now, for each item in your list, ask yourself:  what if my assumption is wrong?  What if – for me at this moment – this is not true or relevant?

If you are truly at a Crossroad Moment and are ready to figure out how to create a Next Chapter, then I invite you to schedule a complimentary and confidential Strategy Call.  The Career (Life!) Breakthrough Academy is helping people just like you, through a proven process and a trusted guide (me!)
